The Record Holds

In the beginning was the Word And the Word was with God And the Word was God

Start with the Word, let the weight of it land Don't trade a clear claim for a feeling that's grand The heavens declare, Psalmist put it in print The heavens declare the glory of God And the sky above proclaims his handiwork That signal is wide, but the answer is near The Word was with God, and the Word was God He wasn't a copy; He wasn't a guest Through Him all things were made; in Him was life I read every verb, let the record stay true A promise with proof is stronger than hue Not every question is finished in a breath But faith can have reasons beneath it Reason doesn't vanish when I believe I read the record, then I sing what I see I was not asked to follow a wish in the dark I was asked to trust the truth and the work of the Cross The Word does not ask for a check in the hand It asks for a heart that will sing and stand

The record holds: Christ died, was buried, raised The Word made all things, and life spoke His name The Cross is not a mood, the promise is sound This is the ground where my praise will stand The record holds: Christ died, was buried, raised The Word made all things, and life spoke His name No need to hide the reason for my song The Cross is the ground, and the truth is strong

The Word was God Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures That He was buried That He was raised again on the third day according to the Scriptures

Creation is preaching without using a sound For by the creation of God through Him His invisible attributes are seen Being perceived through the things that are visible The world is a witness, the heavens declare But I need more than wonder, I need truth I can bear The gospel's not theory: Christ died for our sins According to the Scriptures; He was buried And was raised again on the third day according to the Scriptures A Person with a promise, a record with a date A truth with breath in it, not a wish I invented No vague inspiration, no emotion in place I trace the testimony, I know who holds the chair The Cross is more than memory, more than a symbol in speech God's Word gives the promise, the risen One gives the reach The same Jesus said, I am the light of the world Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness So I bring every question to the source of the claim And I sing because the risen Christ is the name The record holds

When the questions come, I bring them to the Word I don't need to hide what the record says Jesus said, I am the light of the world Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness Follow the Person, not a feeling that sways Follow the promise that the Cross displays The Word made creation, the Cross made restoration And resurrection gives the victory its name So I will not worship blindly, nor will I hide I have a text, a promise, a Person who died and rose again This is the reason that my worship is bold The record holds, and the risen Christ is the ground
